| Objective | |
| I am currently working as a freelance software developer, mostly in the field of industrial ecology, but also for web sites. I am thus not specifically looking for a job, although I would of course consider a very interesting offer. It would have to be an IT-related position and rank at least as project manager or team leader. | |
| Professional experience | |
| Paragraf / SOFIAE, Switzerland | from July 2001 |
|
I am now working freelance under two different names. Under the label Paragraf (http://www.paragraf.ch/) I offer services in the creation of web sites and more traditional desktop publishing (page layout, offset printing, etc.). Under the label SOFIAE (http://www.sofiae.com/) I develop software for industrial or scientific applications with a preference for projects involving ecology or sustainable development. |

| marchFIRST (b-i), Switzerland | June 1999 to June 2001 |
|
marchFIRST was a professional services company, active in information technology, branding and strategy. I worked as a senior consultant on web-related projects. I know all aspects of a major website, from the back end to the front end, although my specialty lies with the latter. I often led teams of developers into the task of integrating the elements that make up a website: the design on the one hand and the dynamic components on the other hand. I performed or supervised the design of page layouts, the definition of style sheets and the coding of dynamic elements. I was also sometimes sent alone on sensitive client assignments for my capacity at working out difficult problems by myself. On top of this, I regularly organised internal trainings, raising the technical knowledge of my colleagues. I have written many training supports myself, on topics such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript. My expertise was often requested on those three subjects. |

Lloyds Bank Plc, Switzerland
Electronic Publishing Unit |
January 1996 to May 1999 |
|
This unit is the desktop publishing (DTP) support for the whole bank. On top of this main assignment, it is also responsible for establishing (and enforcing) standards for publication on any kind of media, as well as providing users with standard templates. Taking a big leap from amateur to professional status in the DTP business, I worked on a whole range of publications, including high quality brochures. I helped transform the unit from an obscure team into a customer-oriented, highly qualified marketing support. I also became responsible for establishing an Intranet within the Bank. It started with just the look and feel of it, but I ended up being the actual project manager, defining the architecture and the policy of the Intranet. |

Nippon Steel Corporation, Japan
Steelmaking Process Laboratory |
June 1994 to May 1995 |
| This laboratory investigates numerous problems which occur during steelmaking. My particular task was to start a computer simulation program regarding the influence of fluid flow on the growth of steel. This implied some in-house development of a finite-difference software, as well as the use of commercial simulation software. I obtained this job thanks to the Swiss foundation "Swiss Academy for Science and Technology", which gave me a scholarship to work in Japan for one year. | |
|
HILTI AG, Liechtenstein
Corporate Research - Computer Simulation |
March 1991 to December 1993 |
| This group is responsible for all the computer simulation development conducted at Hilti. The team I worked in was developing a finite-element (FEM) program simulating the mechanical behaviour of anchors in concrete. I personally developed the 2D pre- and postprocessing programs, which mainly involved the creation of a complete graphic user interface to generate FEM meshes and display calculation results. This gave me extremely valuable experience in the user-friendliness of computer programs. | |

Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne
Laboratory for Physical Metallurgy |
1990 |
|
This laboratory is concerned with all the problems related to solidification processes and laser surface treatment for metals. A large team had developed 2D FEM simulations of metal solidification. My job was to start the expansion of the programs into 3D cases. I had the opportunity to modify an existing set of code and to develop my own program. It was an extensive follow-up of my diploma. This work was done in co-operation with the Swiss industry. As an assistant, I also had the opportunity to help students, a job I found very interesting and gratifying. |
|
| Diploma | end 1989 |
| My diploma was completed in the same laboratory. Its main objective was to change an existing program so as to be able to simulate in 3D the solidification of a monocrystalline superalloy turbine blade. I personally introduced the coding for the radiative heat exchange into the program. | |
